Prof. Dr. Udo Ungeheuer

Udo Ungeheuer was born in Bonn-Bad Godesberg. He studied mechanical engineering at RWTH Aachen and completed his studies in 1979, earning the degree Diplom-Ingenieur (Dipl.-Ing.). In 1985 he completed his doctorate. During his doctoral studies he worked on the problem of developing complex product and production structures for the machine tool industry and plant manufacturing.

His professional career began in 1983 at the RWTH Aachen Laboratory for Machine Tools Production Engineering (WZL), where he headed the research groups Assembly and Production Engineering as the Managing Chief Engineer. In 1986, Dr. Ungeheuer began his career in industry at BMW, where he most recently was Director of Logistics, Technical Planning, and Experimental Vehicle Construction.

He then joined Schott as a Member of the Group Management in 1994. The following year he was appointed to the Board. From 2004 to 2013 he served as Chairman of the Board at Schott AG. Dr. Ungeheuer was named Honorary Professor at the Mainz University of Applied Sciences in 2006 and elected President of the VDI at the beginning of 2013.

Udo Ungeheuer is chairman of the Region Mitte Advisory Council for the Deutsche Bank and member of the Rheinland-Pfalz/Saarland State Advisory Board for the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft.
