Isabel Pfeiffer-Poensgen

Former Science Minister Svenja Schulze was born in Düsseldorf in 1968. She studied German Studies and Political Science in Bochum and completed her university degree in 1968. Between 1993 and 1997, Schulze was Chairwoman of the NRW Social Democrat Youth Association, Jusos.

Between 1996 and 2002 and since 2006, she has been a member of the NRW Board of the SPD.  Between 1997 and 2000, she was a member of the Parliament of the Federal State of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW). Between 2000 and 2004, she was active as a management consultant for various agencies, including serving as an expert for the public sector. In 2004, she again became a member of the NRW Parliament; in this function, between 2005 and 2010, she was Spokesperson of the SPD parliamentary group for the topics of environment, environmental protection, agriculture, and consumer protection.

In 2010, Schulze was appointed as a member of the executive committee of the NRW Board of the SPD. Furthermore, she was appointed NRW Minister for Innovation, Science and Research and thus became a member of the NRW state government till 2017. Since 2012, she also has been a representative for the Federal State of NRW in the Senate of the Max-Planck-Gesellschaft.
