The 2026 Aachen Engineering Award will be presented on September 5 to Aachen-based founders Dr. Daniel Schall and Sebastian Schall and their company, Black Semiconductor.

Sculpture & Artist

The sculpture “Intersecting Ellipses” by the Mexican artist Mariana Castilla Deball was inspired by the collection of mathematical models and instruments at the University of Göttingen. The sculpture will be presented to the award recipient.

Welcome Address

With the Aachen Engineering Award RWTH Aachen and the City of Aachen have jointly committed to annually honoring an individual who has provided particular engineering impulses in the service of technology, the economy, and society.

Dr. Thorsten Sieß, Chief Technology Officer of Abiomed, was awarded the Aachen Engineering Prize in a festive ceremony in the Coronation Hall of Aachen City Hall on September 6, 2025.
