Prof. Dr. Astrid Lambrecht

Prof. Astrid Lambrecht has been Chair of the Board of Directors of Forschungszentrum Jülich (member of the Helmholtz Association) since 2023. She studied physics at the University of Essen (now Duisburg-Essen) and Imperial College in London before completing her doctorate in quantum physics at the Université Pierre & Marie Curie (now Sorbonne University, Paris), where she also habilitated in physics in 2002.

Beginning in 2007, Prof. Lambrecht was a CNRS Research Professor at the Laboratoire Kastler Brossel (Paris), before first being appointed Deputy Scientific Director from 2016 to 2018, then Director of the Physics Division at CNRS Headquarters in Paris until 2021. From 2021 to 2023, she was a member of the Board of Directors at Forschungszentrum Jülich for the department Information until she was appointed Chair of the Board of Directors in 2023. Since then, she has headed the Information department at Forschungszentrum Jülich on an interim basis.

In addition, Prof. Lambrecht was and is active in numerous international scientific bodies and committees, such as the Supervisory Board of the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) and the French Parliamentary Office for Scientific and Technological Assessment (OPECST). Astrid Lambrecht's most important awards include the 2005 Aimé Cotton Prize from the French Physical Society, the 2013 CNRS Silver Medal and the 2016 Gentner-Kastler Prize from the French and German Physical Societies. In 2019, she was also awarded the French Order of Merit of the Legion of Honor, and in 2023 the CNRS Medal of Honor.
